FAQ

What times are the charters?

We run 2 x 6 hour charters per day, 7 days per week. The morning charter normally departs at 6:30 AM and the afternoon charter departs at 2 PM. If 6:30 AM is too early for you we can accommodate accordingly. But as the saying goes “early bird gets the worm”

Do we need to bring fishing gear?

Absolutely not!:

  • We have all the fishing equipment you will ever need- including top of the line rods and reels and choices of over 1000’s of lures on board
  • Fishing instruction- our professional crew will guide you on how to bring in your fish to the boat if you wish.
  • There is no experience necessary. Take advantage of our daily experience in these Lake Ontario waters to help you bring it in!
  • Experienced Captain and first mate (for our larger boat)
  • FREE refreshments during your charter (soda, pop & water)
  • We provide coolers and ICE for bringing your fish home.
  • Fish can be cleaned and bagged by our charter captain or first mate at a cost of $20/fish. We reccomend bringing your own cooler with ice if you plan to take fish, to keep the meat cold on the car ride home.

How long is the King Salmon Fishing Season

The season runs from May to September. We stay on the fish as they circle around the lake in search of bait and optimal water conditions. Rest assured that we will take you where the fish are.

What size are the fish we can expect to catch?

Salmon range between 1 LB to 40+ LBS! The smaller fish make better eating while the bigger fish give a longer fight. We try to always target a mixed bag of fish for our clientele. Spoons up high tend to get smaller fish while large paddles and Meat Dr. lures tend to bring out the big boys.

What should you bring?

Dress for the weather that day:

  • sunglasses, hat, sunblock
  • a sweater or light jacket- it’s always a 5 to10 degrees cooler (celcuis) out on the water, especially early morning or evening.
  • rain gear
  • soft soled shoes (preferably non-marking soles)
  • a camera to show everyone your prized catch!
  • a cooler with ice to keep your fish fresh on your trip home.

I don’t have much fishing experience. Is this a problem?

Not at all. We will offer you as much or as little assistance as you need. All equipment set up is provided for you. Allow us to pass on our daily experience to you so you can land your fish. The fun & challenge is yours!

Do I need an Ontario Fishing License?

Yes. Before your charter, purchase a one day Ontario fishing licence for around $10 at local sporting goods store, such as Canadian Tire’s customer service counter. You are advised to call ahead since a couple no longer sell them but most do. They can also be purchased online HERE.

Gratuities?

Always appreciated. Many groups customarily choose to leave a gratuity for a good, professional charter service, top customer care and the bonus of professional fish cleaning.

Do you have a washroom on board?

Our 26′ and 30′ boats (4-8 people) have a very clean washroom on board with a flush toilet. Our 17′ and 18′ power boats (2-3 people) do not have washrooms on board.

Should I take Gravol?

If you have a history of motion sickness you should take Gravol at least an hour before the charter. Otherwise you will be chumming the water for us and there is no discount for that.

Do you have lifejackets and safety equipment on board?

Safety is our number one priority. Each customer has one DOT certified lifejacket in case of emergency. A personal flotation device can be comfortably worn if desired.

How can bad weather affect my charter?

We monitor the weather very closely by means of VHF marine weather, coast guard and environment Canada reports and radar. If the weather conditions create un-safe water conditions we will, postpone, gladly reschedule or even cancel the charter before departure. Rain is ok on the lake but lightning is not. We care greatly about customer and staff safety.

Do you have information on a good taxidermist?

Yes. If you catch that trophy fish, we will connect you with a world-class taxidermy artist that will turn your memory into a beautiful trophy that will last a lifetime. We recommend a fiberglass replica over traditional taxidermy because they last longer and allow the fish to be released to keep those big fish genetics in the gene pool.
